Brief Summary:

This Personal Development Course is based on the Scouts Australia “Personal Development Course 3”. It is for Scouts Aged 14+ years but we encourage Scouts of all ages to attend. Based on feedback from previous courses, Scouts get most out of the course when they are DOING activities rather than chatting or listening THEREFORE this course will be based mostly on practical activities and minimal discussion, if possible. Short, sharp activity points that will be enhanced and repeated through the course. This course will be suitable for the Australian Scout Award Personal Development badge which will be awarded at the end of the course.

Saturday 22nd August - 12pm - 7pm (includes afternoon tea & dinner)
Sunday 23rd August - 9am - 3pm (includes morning & afternoon tea and lunch)

WHAT TO WEAR: Full uniform, comfortable shoes

Personal Development Courses are a unique opportunity for Scouts to challenge and extend their character and leadership development. Character is the pursuit of one’s personal best and includes having a positive attitude, demonstrating responsibility, respect, and making an effort beyond what benefits oneself. It encapsulates personal growth in the five other SPICES.

Character development is equally a reflection of the values expressed in the Scout Law: Be Respectful, Do What is Right, and Believe in Myself. Collectively, these underpin the themes explored and emphasised on each Personal Development Course.

The intent of this course is to broaden the understanding that Scouts have of themselves and others, enabling them to recognise and reflect on who they are becoming as young people.

Scouts should gain a deeper understanding of values such as respect, integrity and courage. Through exploring these values and developing their sense of identity, Scouts will grow their confidence to lead others.

During this course, Scouts will:
• Be Respectful
o Reflect on the influence they have on others
o Respect the diversity of others
o Develop support strategies for themselves and others
• Do What is Right
o Develop ethical behaviours
o Use the Plan>Do>Review> cycle to develop and strengthen individual character
• Believe in Myself
o Engage in self-reflection
o Learn more about themselves, especially how it relates to their character
o Understand their developing identity, who they want to be and their relationships with other people
