NEW INFO ADDED 2 AUGUST

This is a budget style camp with no frills. We have limited sites at the campsites, at Putty Beach we only have 5 sites that can accommodate 10 small tents (2 per site),

Who can share: Youth from the same section/same gender or youth who are linking into a section can share for example a Scout who is linking to Venturers and has turned 14 can share with other Venturers or a Cub Scout who has turned 10 and is linking to Scouts can share with Scouts. (and are encouraged to do so on this trip), no sharing across sections. If youth do share, we can fit more members on the trip. Adults camp seperate.

As per the Scouts NSW accommodation policy.

Based on this I have calculated we can accommodate 10-12 youth (4 tents with 2 youth and 2 tents with 1 youth) and 4 adults. If any Scouts who are same gender and friends were comfortable to have 3 in a small tent we could also do that. We could maybe bring a tarp to cover luggage outside. Let us know in the comment to activity coordinator if you are coming with a friend or friends.

We can arrange a MS teams meeting on Friday 18th September from 8 pm to 9 pm to partner up people and they can arrange gear sharing. I can also answer any questions and talk briefly about fuel stoves and storage. And youth can take on roles to lead and navigate on certain days.

As we wont have a support vehicle on site we may need to vary to route around available town water supply points. It should not impact us to much however we may detour via these points. Such as the Maitland Bay Visitors Centre and the Killcare SLSC.

Public transport is available to the site, in the form of bus from Woy Woy and ferry from Palm Beach we can talk more about options if people would like to travel as a group

Please bring a extra thin material bag (like a pillow case or thin shopping bags you can get from Woolworths) for the Putty beach nights with extra food and water for those nights with your hike food packed for the remaining nights. Please bring some spending money and your opal card

Swimming may be possible if conditions are safe and appropriate supervision can be provided at either MacMasters Beach or Killcare Beach which are patrolled by SLSC on the weekends and Central Coast Council during the week. Bring your swimmers, boardshorts and sunscreen.

Supervision will depend on the experience of the youth attending however usually a combination of direct and indirect. If the youth are doing well and managing themselves the adults may walk seperate.

Please note we are reaching out for Registered Adult Helpers, Rovers, Adults Leaders and Fellowship to support on these days. All adults on site must be registered with Scouts NSW. Ideally 2 or more adult members to join with Tristan and a minimum of 5 youth to proceed.

Child safety is our number one priority at Scouts NSW. Therefore, all Adult Helpers are thoroughly screened, undergo a Police Check, must hold a valid, verified Working With Children Check and undertake two online training modules to ensure the safety of our youth members.

Prerequisites: OAS bushwalking and camping 3 + some nights camping + have practiced carrying an overnight pack + developing knowledge of bush toileting and hygiene + developing knowledge of water purification.

Learning focus:

  • develop confidence and communication
  • develop physical ability to carry a loaded pack
  • develop independence and knowledge of daily routines on overnight and multi day hikes
  • develop route planning and navigation skills development
  • develop group management skills

Warmer temps and humidity, moving to the coast due to increased fire risk inland.
